Quality

John repairs gel coat imperfections in hulls before they are mated with decks. To keep production at a reasonable level, a daily quota has been established along with consequences for not meeting this quota. Occasionally, John gets behind. To avoid staying late to meet quota, he adds more than the recommended amount of MEKP to accelerate the gel coat cure.

As a result, John gets to go home on time. Unfortunately, the addition of excess MEKP results in discoloration around the edges of the repair, also known as a halo effect. The final finish department will have to grind out and repair this defect. What John has essentially done is to double the time required for the repair while transferring part of his work load to the final finish department.

This wasteful practice can be eliminated by using the Liquid Logic MEKP dispenser. John's supervisor can program in a delay after dispense to discourage John and his co-workers from double dosing their gel coat.

Environmental Impact

The Oceanside Division of U.S. Sportboat is tremendously productive. They could make more money if they could make more boats. There is just one problem. Their EPA permit limits the amount of VOCs they use per year and they come very close to exceeding that limit each year.

Through the use of the Liquid Logic MEKP dispenser, Oceanside could cut their use of gel coat by 890 gallons per year. This decrease in VOC usage is more than sufficient to allow them to build one additional 40 foot boat. The profits generated from the sale of this one boat easily pay for the Liquid Logic MEKP dispensers required to reduce gel coat and MEKP usage.
